On our labor

What happens first

Secure the opening, then solve the glass

When a storefront goes in, the glass is the second problem. The first is that your building is open. So the first trip is a board-up: the opening gets closed so the premises can be secured and you can trade, or at least lock up.

Replacement glass follows. Anything tempered has to be made to the final measurement because it cannot be cut afterwards, so the board stays until the new lite is ready. We will tell you what that looks like rather than giving you a date that sounds better.

Our hours, plainly

Monday to Friday, eight to five

That is when the shop is open and when somebody answers the phone. If something happens on a Friday night, say so when you call and we will tell you what is realistic rather than what you want to hear.

What we will not do is give you a window we cannot hit. In this trade that is the difference between a supplier and a problem.

  • Storefront and entrance glass replacement
  • Single lite replacement in an existing frame
  • Interior partition and office glass repair

Existing buildings

An occupied building is a different job from a construction site

On new construction you are working to a schedule against openings that were framed to a drawing. On an existing building you are working around whoever is using it, and the opening is whatever it has become since it was built.

Most of that work is a glass swap inside the frame you already have. We measure the existing opening, match the make-up, and set the new lite. It is a different kind of job even when the glass looks the same, and it is most of what we do for property managers.

Who calls us

Property managers, building owners, and whoever has the keys

Usually it is not the person who commissioned the building. It is whoever is standing in front of it at seven in the morning with a broom and a phone.

The shop is at 304 Main Street in Marble Falls, which is between ten minutes and about an hour from most of the range we work. You are calling a glazier rather than a dispatch line, and the person who answers can tell you what happens next.

Questions

What people ask when something has broken

A storefront got broken. What happens now?

Call the shop. We board up the opening so the building can be secured, then measure and order the replacement glass. We will tell you straight when we can get there instead of promising a window we cannot hit. Our hours are Monday through Friday, eight to five, so if something happens Friday night, say so when you call and we will tell you what is realistic.

Can you just replace the glass and leave the frame?

Usually, and on an existing building that is most of the work. We measure the opening as it is now, match the make-up and set the new lite. The frame only comes into it if it was damaged too, or if it has moved enough that the new glass will not sit properly.

Is replacing glass in an existing building different from new construction?

Very. On new construction you are working to a schedule against framed openings that were built to a drawing. On an existing building you are working around whoever is using it, and the opening is whatever it has become since it was built. It is a different kind of job even when the glass looks the same.

Why does the replacement take longer than the board-up?

Because anything tempered has to be made to its final size before it is tempered, and it cannot be cut afterwards. That means the glass is ordered to the measurement we take, not pulled from a rack. The board-up is what keeps the building secure in the meantime.

Do you handle insurance work?

We will give you a written scope and a number you can hand to an adjuster, which is usually what is needed. What we cannot do is tell you what your policy covers. Call the shop and we will get you the documentation.

How far will you come out?

Fredericksburg to Georgetown, and most of the Hill Country and the Austin metro in between. If you are near the edge of that range, call and ask rather than assuming the answer is no.

Call the shop

Tell us what has happened

If the building is open, call rather than filling this in. The number is (830) 693-2535 and it reaches the shop directly.

Rather talk it through? (830) 693-2535

A photo of the opening tells us what to bring. Text one to (830) 693-2535 and say whether the building is secure.
